Hi everyone,
Hit it fairly hard last week. It all started Friday evening. Told the wife I was gonna go over to my favorite park and do some searching.
I've been working this place for the last 3 yrs and still can't clean it out. I had less than 2 hrs to hunt with the day time running out now.
I got out of my car walked up one path and the second hole dug was a Indian. I knew it was gonna be a good evening. All the rain we got in P.a over the past week really helped me to get a little deeper.
I stayed in the same area and dug 2 more Indians within 20 minutes of the first one. I was happy to start off with three Indians. They all were 7.5 to 8.0 inches deep. The dates were a 1900 1904 and a nice 1886.
I checked over this little nook/bluff really well. When suddenly I got a really good quarter reading deep under a dead tree/bush. I dug down and dug down nothing came out. I was still getting a strong 84 85 on the dfx. That's either silver quarter, token or possibly just a clad quarter. But it was to deep for clad.
I ruled out the clad quarter. I got down to the clay about 10 to 12 inches deep. And out came this really nice old pin with a screw back on it. It is a hair bigger than a quarter and twice as thick.
It has a hat with two wings coming out of it. It is made of bronze. I first thought military but wasn't sure. I need some I.d help on this one everyone. It looks WW1 but maybe it's just a ordinary pin. I know it's old because three Indians came out of the same area.
I decided the bluff was hit well. I continued to move towards an area where bulldozers are taking out piles of dirt to restore a building. I picked up 2 wheat's in the woods.
But on the way back out just before it got dark. I decided to hit the dirt piles as best as I could. They were all mud so it was tough. As the deers were out watching me I get a nice silver dime signal at the top of one of the piles.
I touch the dirt with the shovel and a nice 1893 barber dime rolls down the hill. I was satisfied with the evening take and called it a night. It was almost dark at that point.
Got up Saturday and decided to work a area deep in the woods. I hit a nice concentration with 15 wheat's and a 57 Roosevelt. I wanted to stay longer but I skipped breakfast and I was starving and getting fatigued. Picked up a 57 Jefferson and called it a day.
Sunday I went right back to the same area because I knew there was more. I got a 48 and 62 Rosie and 2 wheat's. I only had a hr and 20 minutes to hunt. Wife had to go to a candle party. So I stretched it to the last minute.
Saw a nice herd of deers and a good 7 or 8 point buck running with them. I also found a really neat old gun. A whistle that says military on it. And a cool little compass.
Also pictured is a real nice colonial era buckle. I went out Thursday thinking I could do some cellar hole hunting at another nice spot. Well I was wrong. It is still to grown in to hunt. In a hr I picked up the buckle and was somewhat happy with that.
Had to call it a day due to the growth. I also don't like the fact it's archery season right now. And this site is deep in the woods. Don't wanna get hit with a arrow.
All in all a very solid week. I'll continue to get out as much as possibly to hit the area's that can't be hit in the summer. Hope you all like the pics and time I spent putting it all up.
