No that's a "Yellow Garden Spider", the St.Andrew’s Cross Spider is found in Australia, it's called that because of the X pattern in the center of it's web, here's a photo of the St.Andrew’s Cross Spider.

Yep it's a yellow garden Spider and it's a real common spider in the Mid-West ! It's a good spider for in and around your garden / outside of your home to eliminate other bugs

I've got one by my back porch too. She's huge and probably full of eggs and will be making an egg sack soon

I probably have about 10-15 of them right now hanging under the eaves of my barn here in North Carolina. Typical summer event. Harmless but sticking your head into their web in the dark is not fun.
