HI; The brooch is brass with turquoise. The pennies are usually cleaned using a coin tumbler. The button dates to the 1860's. It is a 2 piece button ok. When using a coin tumbler NEVER mix the pennies with anything else. It "WILL" turn the other stuff copper colored. That's why we use a second tumbler barrel for all the other coins ok.
With a tumbler you fill the barrel 1/2 way with the gravel. I use aquarium gravel. Then put the coins in until the barrel is 1/4 of the way full of coins. Seal the barrel and turn on the tumbler. Let it tumble for 2 hours. The coins will come out nice and clean. Make sure you rinse out the barrel when your done. Use TIDE Liquid Laundry Soap as your cleaning agent. It works great. I've tried all the others and they did not work but there is something about the Liquid TIDE that works great on coins ok. Good Luck. PEACE:RONB
