Early last year my friend Ed and I searched a vacant field in an old neighborhood that was called the Meadows. There used to be a Catholic church and school there along with a few houses. The whole area was demolished a few years ago leaving some overgrown, vacant fields. Last year we hunted there after the field was scythed off and we each found quite a few silver pieces, Indian heads and wheaties. But what was really neat was all the other stuff that came out of there, like tokens, medals, rings, toys, etc.

Well, they scythed the field off again recently and leveled the field off somewhat. I think they'll probably make another parking lot or something. Anyway, we've been in there the last couple nights after the workers left for the day. We checked with the construction people to make sure it was o.k. Once again, we found some neat things, but not as much this time.

Here's a "Good For" token from a jewelery store:

This next item came a long way before it was lost. It must have been an old sailor's pocket piece for many years. It's a medal from the Alaska, Yukon, Pacific Exposition, which I think was in Seattle in 1898 or 1899.

Here's an old Police button with shank still attached.

Not too many coins this time, but here's a couple silver Roosies, 5 old wheaties, a 1906 Indian head and a Buffalo nickel with a not quite readable date:

Great finds!
The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition was a world's fair held in Seattle in 1909, publicizing the development of the Pacific Northwest.

It was originally planned for 1907, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush, but the organizers found out about the Jamestown Exposition being held that year, and rescheduled.

Great post & finds Love them Indian Head Coins :o

Great finds.I really like those old tokens.

Thanks for the info and nice comments. I went back to the Meadows this afternoon and hunted from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. They've graded off more of the land and I was hoping I'd find some older, deeper stuff, like maybe a large cent or a Jersey copper. I managed to find 3 wheaties, a Jeff nickel and this 1944 Washington quarter:

I also found an old rusty spoon and some kind of magnetic rock. The findings are getting less and less, but I'll be back there again Sunday for an all day hunt.

Great finds! I'd go back every chance I got. Way to go!
