...or so I thought. I found this silver spoon in the field I have recently been focuses on next door. When it came out of the ground I was thrilled. I have found many spoons but never a silver spoon. I could see markings but I did not want to spend too much time in the field squinting at it so into my pocket it went for further inspection at home.

Then the disappointment. It is silver...triple plate silver. It is marked 1847 Rogers Bros. XS Triple ... and a hallmark. I have never heard of such a thing but I guess it is as close to silver as plated can be. Oh well...I'm going back to the field this evening and not leaving until I hit a real target...may be an all nighter...it's a huge field.

Still has silver on it and in great shape for being dug...most of the old plated spoons don't have ANY shine left by the time I dig em'! ;)

Good luck on the rest of the field!

I think that's an older hallmark, too. I'll try to let ya know. I think you have better odds of a '16 d merc, than any solid silver flatware, so that one is a pretty cool dig, considering condition.

Thanks...I'd appreciate any info!

Very nice spoon, many years ago I found a nice old silver spoon and I left it at my grandmothers house I went back to get it and she said "I must have threw that old spoon away" .It was black with tarnish and she did not know it was silver . It had a date of 1881 on it and the makers but I can't remember their name. Of course I did not get mad ,it was grandma. :)
