Hi all.......Sunday we were treated to a great sight our best field had been harvested bailed and ploughed and rolled, I couldn't believe my eyes wasn't expecting to get on this field till about November time. We hit the roman coins almost straight away, small bronzes not much detail left but a welcome site, the fist hour I had six bronzes and a clipped Silaqua, Michael had ten bronzes and a 22ct wedding ring our third Gold ring in as many weeks, going back to the car I had a nice signal in one of my own foot prints and a damaged Edward hammered appeared from the ground (26 hammered so far this year for me). after lunch I managed another five bronzes bringing the total for the day for me to 11, the best find for me came near the end of the day in the form of a nice Roman Bow Brooch(Trumpet Style) slightly bent and the pin missing but still in nice condition, Michael finished the day with 20 bronzes a broken Silver and a smashed hammered farthing more to come from this field

Wow wish I could take a trip there.

Looks like you really kicked butt again. It sure would be nice to be able to find stuff that old over here. Envy you guys.

I love those wide open fields you all have in England!!!

Beautiful beautiful............. :P

WOW! What a great day you two had! I always look forward to detecting in England, but now I am really fired up about my week long detecting trip to Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire in November. Thanks for the great photos.

AWESOME!!! What are those square rock thingys?
Roman tessari...probably from a mosaic floor.

You are so lucky have that field ready now. I was waiting for it to come back on line, you should have some more silver romans soon. We have 1 total this year :P Even our best fields are not as good as that one. You should be happy for years to come. Make sure you hammer it well & I wish I could join you. Our biggest problem is this new land (4 thousand acres, where do you start?) :icon_scratch:

I don't no about you but I don't do fields that don't have water very close to them or border a village or church, unless your 4,000acre field has water near I would not give it a second glance, with our field I wondered about till I had found a hot patch then I'll grid it for a while if the finds go of I will find another area. But ussually I will follow my instincs.

The land border 3 churches & that's where we are starting, plus there is suppose to be a villa on one site. Its just the size of these fields which seem unmanageable. Could take us two years to hit the hot spots. Mean while our known hots spots need doing as well. Time is the biggest issue & my back which is just about holding up under the onslaught.

Man I wish I was there with you all hunting. Excellent job though. HH Terry

EXCELLENT finds. The Roman silver is incredible--and even some of the bronzes are appealing coins aesthetically.

Need some help, Crusader? I'll be in Europe next summer--and I can easily make a stop there on my way back. :)

Best Wishes to Both of you,
