As a lot of you know I have been down with busted ribs. Well, today got the best of me and after a little antique shopping I decided to hit a small park a mile or so from where I used to live and boy howdy am I glad I did. I got my oldest coin to date and silver. Not coins but jewelry. Not just a ring. Not just a necklace. Not just a bracelet BUT ALL THREE :o
At first I thought I was in pulltab hell, but I told myself I had to just keep on going and dig 'em and one might be a ring. Well it turned into a clad penny party for awhile, and then I got a pretty sweet but odd signal. Turned out to be a heavy mens sterling bracelet. A few tabs and a bit of clad later came another big hit.I actually saw the object, and yes it was silver. A beautiful silver necklace with a nice heart shaped pendant fully intact and not corroded in the least.
Then maybe an hour later and a bunch of clad hanging in my pocket I thought "Another penny!" Well it was a penny, but it was a 1919 canadian large cent. A bit larger than a quarter but thinner. I thought it was a baseball token and pocketed it, but when I looked at it during a break, I was very pleased to see what it was as old coins are VERY hard to find here.
Long story short I was headed back to my rig, thinking my luck must have run out for the day,but still swinging, and be danged if I didn't pull up a sweet little sterling ring. I washed it all off and gave it a quick rubdown and I am now the proud owner of 41.7 grams of new to me sterling.
It really was an awesome day, and I am very happy to be swinging the MD again!

Now can anyone tell me about cleaning that 1919 Canadian large cent up a little?

If you got anything still ailing you Nashoba....well I think you just fixed it.....Awesome dig's

Nashoba, glad that you got out. Heck, you don't use your ribs to swing a detector anyway! Looks like you've got a great spot there. Either that or a bunch of great detectorists that left it alone until you got back on your feet!

That's a nice amount of silver. Can't beat a day like that. I think your right about old coins around here, they seem to be pretty sparse. But as you proved, it's not impossible.

Nash,

You were itching to get out, couldn't stay cooped up another day. I'm glad you're feeling better. :)

Congratulations on your ring, bracelet, necklace and coin. :o Tommorow you will be saying, "Oh, my aching ribs." :(

The wounded man is indeed feeling a few aches and pains, but I have about half that place to work and after tomorrows Doctors appointment, you can bank on me being out there again. ;D

YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS HOBBY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nash,

glad you got out.

Some real nice finds.

have a good un.....................

Cool hunting, glad to see ya back from the nasty rib injury, not sure which ones you hurt but I know the bottom ones are the slowest to heal,I was told because they dont have as much support. Mine would ache when storms came and went for a good 4 or 5 years I say but once you get past the initial part you are good to go. Sure wouldnt injure them again though. Will you be able to detect all winter where you live? I know in some areas out there it snows but doesn really stay around long because rain comes in and melts it? Or are you in higher elevation where it sticks around? HH

thanks a lot folks for all the kind words. It sure made my day finding all that silver....Shootist. I am pretty close to sea level here so we get rain even WHEN it snows! LOL The rainy weather does keep some of us from detecting, but having been raised here, I know I ain't sugar so I won't melt! Cold, wet, stormy weather is the norm for about half the year...It just rains the rest of the time. ::)
