As a lot of you know I have been down with busted ribs. Well, today got the best of me and after a little antique shopping I decided to hit a small park a mile or so from where I used to live and boy howdy am I glad I did. I got my oldest coin to date and silver. Not coins but jewelry. Not just a ring. Not just a necklace. Not just a bracelet BUT ALL THREE :o
At first I thought I was in pulltab hell, but I told myself I had to just keep on going and dig 'em and one might be a ring. Well it turned into a clad penny party for awhile, and then I got a pretty sweet but odd signal. Turned out to be a heavy mens sterling bracelet. A few tabs and a bit of clad later came another big hit.I actually saw the object, and yes it was silver. A beautiful silver necklace with a nice heart shaped pendant fully intact and not corroded in the least.
Then maybe an hour later and a bunch of clad hanging in my pocket I thought "Another penny!" Well it was a penny, but it was a 1919 canadian large cent. A bit larger than a quarter but thinner. I thought it was a baseball token and pocketed it, but when I looked at it during a break, I was very pleased to see what it was as old coins are VERY hard to find here.
Long story short I was headed back to my rig, thinking my luck must have run out for the day,but still swinging, and be danged if I didn't pull up a sweet little sterling ring. I washed it all off and gave it a quick rubdown and I am now the proud owner of 41.7 grams of new to me sterling.
It really was an awesome day, and I am very happy to be swinging the MD again!

Now can anyone tell me about cleaning that 1919 Canadian large cent up a little?

Those are very nice finds. As far as cleaning, I don't know how you would clean them. I'm glad the ribs are healing okay.

WOO-HOO awesome digs !!!!!! ya baby !! 2 years and no chains here,, very nice..... ;D ;D

Nice finds! Sweet jewelry. I love finding that old Canadian stuff. That coin is a good find. You definately did good. For cleaning you can try a Q-tip dipped in some amonia. Try a small spot on the coin to see the effect. We have some good luck with cleaning our wheat pennies and Indian Heads this way.

Glad you got out and your feeling better.Awesome finds.Take care.

Nash...glad to see you back out and Congrats on some sweet finds...broken ribs are no fun and, as I am sure you know, it hurts just to breathe nevermind to swing a detector....great job.....don;t overdo it though, ribs are VERY easily re-fractured if not healed fully, one quick sneeze and you are back at square one.
Good luck today and hope to see lots more silver posted from you, coins as well...:):)

Nash, I was out in Lynnwood in September and had perfect weather all week! I was told it was unusual to not have at least some rain. I hit a couple of the parks and found a lot of clad. I was only coin shooting since I didn't know my way around very well, and not knowing the local regulations I only spent a few minutes in each park. I had planned to go back later but ran out of time before I had to come back home. I also checked out the high school and found quite a few quarters. There seems to be a lot of likely places to hunt around that part of the state. Congrats on your finds. Monty

Thanks a lot everybody. Can we say "OUCH"? I CAN!!! Holy camoly. I am hoping for a break in the weather, as it got really ugly overnight. I don't want to get blown off the top of that bluff. I did some research and the place I am digging was once the home of 8 pre1900 Victorian homes....I think I like that!

And thanks for the advice on the ammonia. I soaked the coin overnight and it helped...SOME.LOL Some of those coins are just so crusty! Especially up here on the Sound. It is my oldest by far! MAYBE I can get out there and find a pretty silver one!!!

Thanks again folks. You guys are the greatest!

WHOA Nashoba!! That's certainly a vengance. Wonder if the same person lost it all? Great digs, great jewelry. Take it easy on the ribs though, LoL, after that I would be foaming to dig dig dig so I hope you aren't foaming too much yet.
