Out in the backyard on this sunny morning. The apple tree I planted maybe 18 years ago didn't freeze this year, so I have apples. I got it in a box sent by mail, so we can make some apple pie and the grapes I planted maybe 20+ years now. Both are tasty treats from out the back door, but you need to find a worm-less apple as I never try and stop those guys from messing with my apples. The grapes are good, but still stuff at the store still taste better to me, as they come from the places they grow best this time of year.

Potential for wine and cider there.Worms and all.

Sure! My previous next door neighbor would make wine from the grapes I have. It tasted pretty tart to me, but was fun to see him make it. I'll just cut the worms away from the apples for pie. I may just give cider a try this year??

Options abound. Some purists let apples sit on ground a while. Crush them and let them air a while then press them. Some let natural yeast, and French purists use only that which is on the apples/in the air. Regulations do not allow adding water either but tanks get rinsed sometimes,l.o.l.. Others use a Camden tablet or more depending on volume a day to kill wild yeast. I cheat and buy pressed cider from a farm and use wine yeast. Some gets drank while it has a heavy feel to it and other gets racked and fermented out to make apple wine. The wine yeast tolerates more alcohol. Things can be done with the grape wine to create a range from a sweet dessert wine to a tart wine.. A fun but patient hobby.
Worms should not hurt nothing, heck they even put one in tequila bottles. When our ancestors consumed so much cider they were not spraying for bugs...

Interesting. I may just give some of this a try. Not every year I get apples. The grapes always are on the vine. I did grow up drinking Granddads homemade cider. Thanks for some tips.

Hey Tamrock... do you know the exact type of grapes they are? I have some in my back yard of new house I bought and have no clue but same as in your picture.

They're green and that's all I know them as. This one fella said they're common juice grapes and they do taste like Welshes grape juice. I planted purple grapes the same time I planted these and they didn't make and died the first year. I'm sure they have a proper name and it was most likely on the tag when I got them at Walmart. They grow like crazy and I trim them all the time. Wife said she wish she had a grape arbor and this is just one of the few successful granted wish from the many of mine that have failed. :)

Nice to see it still resembles summertime someplace at least. 32 and light frost when I left work this a.m. Think I'll head over to Weston Pass tomorrow and check that out, and hopefully no rain or snow this week, haha!

Hope ya post some pic's of Weston. Haven't been up that way in some time, but was thinking I'd go over before the snow fly's.

Nice photographs! Thanks for sharing...

Your so lucky tamrock to actually get "fruit" & beautiful ones at that! Only fruit we get is from the wild grapes, very sweet but small and some squaw berries. Our apple & peach tree have never had fruit and the wild plums only once in a while....we get late freezes....>:(

It's always beneficial when you can grow your own fruit and veggies. How was the jelly?

It's good been having it on toast. I'm in Columbus now. I've got a factory rep fella from Missouri with me this trip and got to make tracks on I25 south back to Denver asap tomorrow. Wish I could take the time for a visit this trip, but will for sure next time. How's all at the Digger camp? ... The jar's about a 3rd left.
