Well the last few days have been the pits. I've been down with back problems. One of the ever challenging joys of the "Golden Years". But... I am over that now and was able to get out hunting this morning. Yippee!
I got to the small beach I go to. Got my gear on and walked down to through the sand MD'ing all the way to the water. The water was great! Calm, clear and it was just beautiful outside. It felt good to be back out. I got in the water and hunted about 15 minutes and just was not hearing any sound at all. Nothing! I heard it as I was getting to the water. I heard sound when I first got in the water but now.... nothing. I looked at my control box and no lights. I though "OH NO"
I went back to the car to get new batteries. Rooted around in my MD bag and found some batteries but... they were the wrong ones. These go in my other machine. NO BATTERIES.
Now what is the FIRST thing an MD'er learns when he/she starts hunting? The number ONE thing! Batteries! Always take spare batteries with you.
So I pack up my stuff and go look for a store open early in the morning. No Walmarts around where I was at and besides I was sopping wet!! I found a grocery store and went in and stood at the door and asked the clerk where the batteries were so I wouldn't have to traipse all through the store dripping water on the floor. As luck would have it... they were right by her so I grabbed them and went to pay for them. OH NO! I didn't have enough money in my hunt bag and I left my purse in the car. Back out I go to the car.... thank goodness it was real early and I didn't have anyone waiting behind me. Got back in the store, used my debit card and paid for the batteries. Asked the clerk for some paper towels to wipe up my mess so no one would fall. She said thank you very much and I left to go back to the beach.
Got back to the beach, put the new batteries in....and off I went back down the dry sand, heading for the water. Ahhhh sound! Beautiful sound. It was still beautiful out. The water was still wonderful and I had sound - lovely sound. Hit number 1! A (whatelse) battery! On a little further and here comes hit number 2! A bottle cap. DARN! Keep going mumszie... keep going. More pull tabs, more bottle caps, some bits of metal somethings... a clothespin and then it happened...........
Someone yelled at me. It's there - look LOOK!
I turned around and there behind me was a fin. YIKES! Did I say a fin? Yep! A FIN! And not one but TWO FINS! OH CRAP! I started walking backwards towards shore (I was chest deep). Now I don't know about you guys but I don't move very fast in the water. One fin disappeared then the other disappeared. I'm still walking to shore. OK I know what you gng's are thinking... she thinks its sharks. Well you are right that was my first thought and then when reason took over I realized that it was dolphins. Two dolphins. One passed right by in front of me the other following right behind. **sigh** Question.... Is it wrong to S*** your pants while hunting in the water? Just wondering.....
The scare was over and back I went to where I was to start hunting some more. hit - junk, hit - junk, hit - a dime!, OK now this is the way it goes. Hit - junk, hit- junk, hit - a charm. Oh yeah, I like this. It is a junk charm but still a charm. On I go doing my thing. and YIKES! **sigh** it's just a big crab and he is moving faster out of my way than I am his. Heh heh One more scare for the day.
I guess this is getting long enough so I better get to the end.
My finds for day.....
Not bad - not bad.
I found a ring and it turned out to be .925 silver. ALL RIGHT!
I was tired and I headed back to my car ready to quit for the day. Along the way I met one of the park employee's. She very nicely told me that I had to leave. Yes, I was asked to leave the park. I was told I could only hunt the beach area (not going and coming from the beach area) and only from 7 am - 9am. I didn't have a watch on and I was headed back to my car but told me it was 9:21 and I was told (nicely) that I need to read the signs. It is posted where I can hunt and when. I said thank you and left. I love Pasco County.
I found 1 quarter, 2 dimes, a charm, a pair of sunglasses and a ring. All in all.... it was a bad day, a scary day and turned out to be a good day! I'll take it.
