Detector(s) used
Minelab SE Professional with 6" Coil
Hey all. My coworkers are not detectorist....so I had to jump on here and share my excitement with someone who understands. I just sold my Whites and bought a brand new Minelab SE Pro with the 11" coil from Windy City Detectors!!! Ron is a stand up guy and will do you right. He really worked with me on pricing and I can't say enough good about him.

I would appreciate any tips that you all could give me as the Minelab is new to me. I hope it proves to be a good match to my detecting style.....which is lazy. ;D Anyway, just wanted to tell someone, and thought I should tell my metal detecting compatriots. L8TR all, and happy hunting.

Oh Crap ...

You have gone done it now...

Notice the sudden rotational shift of the earth's axis ...

We will soon be spinning out of control & hurled into a collision course with the dreaded planet ME22...

Oh the AGONY ... :crybaby2:

PS ~ Congrat's on the New Rig ...

Yeah, I hope that doesn't happen. Mastereagle is sooo big he has his own gravitational pull, so I should be OK if I keep my distance. :P

Congrats on the new detector. I'm hoping to have one soon too (SE pro), as soon as I finish ebaying everything in the house.

Congrats on the new baby! Can't wait to see what you find with it!

Keep to the factory presets in the start, the slowly start to lower iron disc with time.
Set variability to 10
Gain at 8-9

Use manual sens;
Set it until it gets erratic then lower until it isn't erratic or falsing any more.
Also if in much trash, use less sens
If your having trouble to keep it stable use auto sens at max. (it will adjust as close to that as possible)

Go slow, this is a key word.

Also, keep an eye on depth meter anything that keeps the cursor jumping and is deep, dig.

Learn the sounds by digging everything when iron disc is in the pre-set mode.

look at the videos on mlotv.com (or similar, writing on top of my head)

Read the manual.

If your having a good sound but the screen is showing iron (or similar) stomp on it.
It might change, if it still looks bad look at the depth meter, if deep; dig.
If not deep, you can most likely ignore it.

For relic hunting use NO iron mask and ferrous sounds. (none iron gets a high pitch)

Hope this helps,
Eu

I finally threw my Minelab Piece of Junk out and bought an XLT off a guy from the internet.

No wait............... :-\ oh darn it to heck! :(

Congratulations! I just bought an E-Trac from Ron. I can't recommend Windy City Detectors enough. It arrived yesterday. If you don't have Andy Sabisch's book, I would suggest getting it as soon as possible. If you order it directly from Andy's site (http://www.sabischbooks.com/), he will autograph it for you and have it to your doorstep (no tax or shipping charges) in a few days. It is well worth many times the cost.

Good luck, and HH,

Dr. Ace

I just unloaded my DFX and got an SE Pro (ETA one week). Count me in on the group that has to learn another machine all over again. Let me know how it works out for you Balding!

I bought an SE from DD-777 with the 10 X 12 S.E.F. coil and I have about 10 hours practice with it. It is getting more beautiful every minute, lol... Really, I am starting to learn a little about it and I like it more every time I use it. I found a silver dime at 6" with it and it sounded so sweet. I had been over that same area dozens of times with my Ace 250 and never heard it. I know it was the same area because it was in my front yard right next to the corner of the porch. I had to trade my digging knife for a shovel though, lol... parts of my yard has been filled in to level it and I just know I will find a silver quarter a foot deep or so sometime soon. Best of luck to you.

I GOT MY SE PRO FROM BRETT. REALLY TOOK CARE OF ME WITH A QUAILTY MACHINE. I AM GETTING USED TO THE SOUNDS NOW. TOOK SOME TIME. STILL HAVE NOT FOUND DEEP SILVER YET, BUT I HAVE FOUND WHEATIES AT AROUND 6-8 INCHES. SO I WILL GET DOWN THERE.

Congrats on the new machine BB.I just got a used Explorer xs.Now I know that most folks wont believe this but I found a 1909-d Barber dime the other day with it......18 inchs deep !!! It was in the subsoil which is a different color than the topsoil so I know it was down there.

BB, I feel your pain about fellow employees. Being a path finder in the field of detecting for a normal company is not very rewarding.

Why did you not get an E-Trac? Just curious.

I don't really know. I guess that the E-trac was soo new that I didn't have that pioneering spirit. I knew the Explorer II was a great machine and it seemed the safest thing for me to do was to stick with what has proven itself. I was told the processor was a bit faster on the Se Pro than the Exp II and I also got a super deal on the detector. I think it has been a good machine thus far, but I decided the trashy areas I hunt are not conducive to using that factory coil. I have a 6" DD EXcelerator EQ 2 Procoil waiting on me when i get home from work tomorrow. Hope this is the answer to finding some stuff!

See ya,
BB
