As the Foil Field had died a death we spent the whole 5.5 hrs gridding this Roman Site on the Barley Stubble.
We were hoping to finish this field today so we could move on to other targets but we still have about half a day left.
My tactic to get out an extra flag & do longer runs paid off with a Silver falling to me outside of the main scatter (like Cru'dad's but the opposite end). This tactic was done to try & cover virgin ground outside of the scatter but taking advantage of the deep plough last year. (when we cleared out the main area)

12 Roman Bronze Coins (1 OK one)
WWI Machine Gunner Corp Button
Jetton
17th C Token
Roman Bird Brooch
Georgian Trade Weight
1917 3 Pence
Bit of a Roman Spoon
Constantius II, AR Reduced Siliqua. Lyons. AD 360-363.
DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG, pearl and rosette-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right.
VICTORIA DD NN AVGG, Victory walking left, holding wreath and palm branch.
Mintmark LVG.
The Roman Silver looks better than the 1917.

Thats a fine Siliqua Sir! Were you fooled first by the 5 Pfennig? :laughing9: The 5 and 10 Pfennig always come in a beautiful golden colour.

Nice finds Cru, you and your Dad had a good hunt.
I wonder why someone would 'hole' a 1917 silver, possibly WWI sentimentality or from a charm bracelet? :icon_scratch:

Nice silver! Liking the Jetton as well, I always thought they were a cool one to dig when in good shape.
I see you got one of those "Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre badges":)

Yeah, must have been a bracelet, pretty common to be made from 3 pences.

I finally put that myth to bed. I was mostly convinced of that ID because its published in a well known book which has no other mistakes that I know of, other than this one. Robfinds actually commented on it being Victorian but not what it went on.
I finally spotted one on a US storage locker show, it had several around a late 19th C Magicians box. However, I believe they decorated other 19th C boxes as well. I'm at Dad's now, but if I remember I'll post a picture of the TV ID later!
