Bale is a collective name often used to discuss the authors of the famous "Bale ciphers."
According to legend, he was an early 19th-century traveler who hoped to hide valuable cargo and leave behind three encrypted texts.

But the gold isn't the point—a multitude of myths, cracked versions, alternative versions, and strange inconsistencies have grown up around these papers.
Many believe that "Bale" isn't a specific person, but a figure ascribed to history to conceal the true author and further the purpose of the ciphers.In my case, I'm using the name "Bale" simply as a convenient way to refer to the person who created the route code: the person who worked with the layers of text.
So it's not necessarily a historical figure—it's more of a figure in the history of the mystery.
