I was at our daughters bank today when I noticed 4 silver quarters in the tray. They turned out to be 1999 state quarters, but P mint. They sure look and feel like silver.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but only state quarters minted at the San Fransisco mint are silver. You probably have a silver plated coin.

If you like them, then why not? Numismatically, they have no value beyond face. It is considered PMD.

didn't they do proof sets of statehood quarters that were silver Could have sworn I saw those advertised in coin magazines.

Yes, they did statehood quarter sets that are silver but they are all San Fran mint. They came in 5 quarter sets.
