Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

If you post your finds here, I think they are safer than your house.

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

Silver at the bank + Economic/currency meltdown = no silver for you :(

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

Bury them by a metal pole :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

As long as you pay your safety deposit dues and don't have any tax liens or get sued, a safety deposit box is safer than keeping it at home. I would try to split it up, some in the bank, some at home, and some in the ground.

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

If the Government calls for a bank holiday which means the banks close and open up at the Governments discretion you may never get your coins.I think in 2012 were going to see some major financial fireworks in Europe and here in America.Keep those finds close to you.Google bank holidays and there are some useful info along with the nut jobs out there. But trust me a bank is the last place I would put your precious metal finds at.

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

The key is diversification. What has advantages also has disadvantages. Storing things in an SDB has a few advantages, usually it is incredibly secure, usually they are good against natural disasters (except for floods!), is conveniently located (your bank 5 minutes away most likely will rent you an SDB) and generally fairly low priced. The problem with SDBs is that while it is safe against outsiders (and safe against bank employees), the real threat may be the government which can essentially seize and loot your SDB in the name of whatever buzzword fits the time. It also has disadvantages in the fact that if a major national disaster happens (or even a minor one) the bank may not be open for you to recover your PMs. The same thing could be said with storing your gold/silver offshore, while you minimize your risk by storing it in a more stable jurisdiction, chances are it is much harder to set it up and unless you have a private jet, flying to Singapore to personally inspect your vault is an expensive endevour.

There is no foolproof place to store your CRHing finds, what works for one person might not work for another, what one person things is entirely reasonable to do might be seen as silly by someone else. Its like everything else in life, diversify, diversify, diversify. Store your wealth in as many places as possible, the world is a big place and we no longer have to be constrained by geography.

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

GL, thanks for that, I like your opinion and agree...and Ox (less the burying part).

Diversification does make the most sense to me, and it's just like having many vehicles for your wealth. A vehicle for protection, growth, and conservative security for example, the perfect balance for whatever makes you feel comfortable. Me personally, have to decided to keep about 80% of my PM's/JS in a SDB and 20% at home.

The reason I brought this thread up is because my bank offered me a free one, because of my account type. It is truely free, and so storing a part of my PM's/JS there is a no brainer to me. As PM's are just a part of my personal portfolio, I feel comfortable with them there, for now. If the economy starts to spiral, everything will be close to my side, and I do mean everything. chickchic. :icon_profileright:

Dude posted for a couple of months like normal (with a screen name that promoted his own site).

After a while, he out of the blue said he was running a contest to see who could guess how many Brass cents he would get from a bunch of boxes - winner would get a Ag 0.10 from his CRH stash.

He did a second and third contest - winners would get some of his Ag coins found from CRH.

Then, he announced big prizes were going to be given out on his site. I played the game there.

Bottom line is that no one ever got prizes from him. I and one or two other members have confessed to PM'ing him home addresses - so he could send Ag in the mail. OOPS

Could be that:
1) He was just trying to promote his own site and got in over his head.
2) He was fishing for a way to get the location of big hoards of coin so as to visit late at night and without permission. Ruger, Ruger, and I haven't seen him come to our place yet. (my dog and my .22 revolver are both named Ruger!)

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

Try "First national bank of dirt". They're open 24/7....

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

Huntscoins dot com = FAIL

Why would you even fall for that? This is the internet in 2011. Its like the 15 year old chick who sends a naughty pic to boyfriend and then they break up, then shes all over the internet.

"I had no idea"...naieve naieve, cmon people. As people hurt for money, they will do the craziest things for yours, even builind a database of known "coin collectors" who probably have PM's along with the CRH finds. :BangHead:

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

The saddest thing about HuntCoins was that he was promoting his site which was filled with fallacies. The dude was wrong on so many facts, I didn't know where to begin to correct him. I figure with his knowledge competition isn't such a bad thing.

I am Guilty as charged. A whole lot of the active members participated in the constests - GH included.

Sitting here watching the NFL thinking about the $125 in unsearched pennys I have calling my name. As I sit here I wonder how many copper pennys I will find. Guess the number of copper pennys in the 5 boxes of Brinks pennys. so 981 or 1236 or whatever your guess is. Winner will be shipped 2 WAR NICKELS which is worth 4.66 melt value http://changevalues.com/silver_coin_calc.php

A little looking and you can find a general range that my boxes average to help make a better educated guess. Closest wins if nobody gets it exactly right

Good Luck to all and thanks for participating

tmjones550: 322 copper.

oops - I was thinking wheats @ first so I'll guess 372 - I really have no idea because I never count them I just throw them in plastic containers.

But I'm probably way too low - oh well.

Maybe you have 2 or 3 boxes of 2011's and I'll win by pure dumb luck. :)

the total was 2925 and the winner was brendan1414 There were 3 people within 25 of the correct number. Maybe next time I will have a runner up prize or two if it is that close

There were more than 90 guesses. Of course only a few were "lucky" enough to be able to provide their home address to the OP.

He did seem genuine to me, not a genuine expert, but a genuine hobbyist.

Re: Bank Safety Deposit Boxes

I guessed for the competition. I never would have actually given my address for a $2 dime. Im paranoid as they come.

Heed can confirm, via PM, I said Ill participate but he aint getting my address if I "win".
