This was yesterdays 6 hour hunt. Finally it rained all day Friday which gave us much better hunting conditions. Dad actually managed to get 5 Roman Coins, some very small ones as well.
This was our best 1 day total for Roman Bronze Coins this year - 20 8-)

1 Good Album Coin added to the collection.

Cru,

Lots of old coins from one hunt....there must have been lots of activity at that site over the years.

It was a small Roman Settlement. Dad & I have had over 1000 Roman Bronze Coins from this 1 field, by far our highest amount for 1 site.

Planting was ages ago, but I guess you mean I happy its Harvest time, which of course I am.

CRUSADER THE FINDS THAT YOU POST AFTER EACH HUNT IS REMARKABLE . YOU NEVER SEEM TO FIND THE SAME ITEM TWICE BUT SOME OF YOUR FINDS ARE REALLY NICE .

That really is a large roman coin haul from that site. What sort of size do you think the settlement covered and can you estimate the length of occupation from the timespan of the coins ? I'm sure the site will really come to life again once it has had the stubble ploughed over and you can really get the coil to the soil ;)
The large triangular item pictured, is that the top of an old fashioned crop sprinkler?

HH George.

I know the exact area because its been archaeologically mapped & we GPS all the coins & artefacts. Its covers about 8-10 Acres & had about 4-5 houses on it. It dates from the beginning of the 3rd C AD - end of 4th C AD, although it had its routes in a single Iron Age Round House, circa 1st C AD. We record all the coins off this site direct with the British Museum.

I think the brass item is an old swivel piece.

We get plenty of repeats, specially coins.

A good amount of coins on that site again. I wonder how many more would turn up after a good deep plow. It's fascinating how many coins were lost one one site and another has only a handful of them.

I think there might be a banner find coming soon with the history you recover Happy hunting and reap the harvest

Super variety of old coins and buttons. Holy Cow, just how large was this field? ACRES AND ACRES?

Thanks for that.

As we have hammered it after several deep ploughs & it was only deep ploughed last year, we will give it a rest after this.
