Barrel Tap

[deershed]

Found what we feel is an old barrel tap.The area it was found has a lot of history and there was a distillery in the area, outside of Smithsburg,Md.
I'm not sure of the exact history but, I think it was the Confederate troops and it's documented stole 12 barrels of whiskey from the distillery.
Any one have any idea if it is indeed a barrel tap and maybe a age on it?

Thanks!!

Looks like a gas or compressed air valve to me.

Old barrel taps were hammerd into the barrel not threaded
