I found this cool torch in a basement of an empty house, it was on the top shelf in the back.

Nice find, I have one my father left me, I also have the soldering iron that goes with it, when I was a kid, my soldered all kinds of thin copper and brass together or just seal up holes in cans. Thanks for looking, marion

Nice find. I'll bet a lot of people don't know what those kind of torches were used for.

My father used one, or one like it, to soften paint so it could be scraped off. He painted houses in his off time from the police department.

"Steampunk". I don't know why, but at 66 I REALLY like steampunk things. Go figure.

Marion Moore is right. It's for a soldering iron. You would place the iron in the loop on top of the torch with the tip of the iron in the flame. The tip would become hot enough to solder with.
