I believe Japanese. Maybe brought back from a GI during the time of US occupation? My dad brought stuff like that back for my mom when he was there in around the later 1940s??

Do you know if something like this would be a common possession? Ive had a rather hard time locating anything near this type of craftsmanship on such a simple basket.

I live right next to Mexico and have never seen one.

40's 50's Mexico....my uncle used to bring those back during that time. If you have much experience with Mexico tourist items you know that "fads" (for lack of a better term) happen...you see this stuff appear and it is all over and then BOOM it is gone onto the next fad. on and on and on...
