That's my understanding too, but, I've always been skeptical of that. We'll see as the days and months go by!

Lithium-Ion batteries do not have memory like previous batteries. You should always charge after use, regardless of how deep you have discharged the batteries. In fact, if you take the batteries down to almost fully discharged every time you charge, you will reduce the life of Lithium-Ion batteries. The have a much longer life if you try to reduce the number of times you discharge below 50%.

Taking a battery to full discharge will shorten the life of Lithium Ion batteries, especially repeatedly because this causes an irreversible chemical reaction causing lithium ion loss and a resulting loss of capacity. But many device makers include low voltage discharge protection circuits that keep the battery from reaching the threshold where degradation occurs. Still, not a good idea to regularly take the battery all the way down to where the device shuts off, if you can help it. Charging after use is a good habit to maintain the life of the battery rather than leaving it in a nearly fully discharged state and it is ok to charge it even if it is minimally discharged. The other thing to watch out for to preserve Lithium Ion battery life is limiting its exposure to extreme temperatures. Especially, hot temperatures. Do not store the detector where it can be exposed to more than 120F. Do not charge the battery in temperatures less than 32F or greater than 104F. (All the storage, operating, and charging temperature limits are listed on p. 65 of the manual).
