Hi,

A fellow detecting nut from Europe reporting in :hello:

A rainy day over here and I thought I'd register here and take a few shots of the gold and silver picked up so far for everyone to enjoy 8-) Nothing makes you want to go out there again like seeing some great finds eh? works for me.

So here's two and half months worth of very active beach detecting with Garrett AT Pro, dry suit and a stavrscoop

This is the start of my second season with this hobby and it seems I'm hooked - happy hunting!

I have to disagree with Acquisitor. If there are places people congregate, beaches, parks, etc, there will always be fresh drops. I think posting the finds is great, and its not like exact locations are being given. There are many many european detectorists on this forum and some regularly post great amounts of finds continuously. The history of Europe is very old, I doubt all of Europe has been hunted to the last signal.

The best I could do with the camera I have. I've yet to find a top of the line digital cam :metaldetector:
Your pictures are not blurry, there some of the better Ive seen on here...Rockys computer must be blurry. :dontknow:

its not very smart to post all this stuff on a forum considering that your country can be determined by a trained eye.

just saying
I see you post your finds.....

Thanks guys. Glad to see not all of us are so negative about sharing our finds. What's the point of great finds anyway if you can't share them with anyone (online or irl). It would be a shame if everyone would just hold on to their precious finds and keep them in the dark. I personally love to see what other seekers find in the ground. Happy hunting and remember it's still just stuff! Even if it shines and is sooo pretty :D

Yeah, if you don't show someone it never happened.

Impressive detecting!

Almost forgot this one. It's a return white gold 24k(!)

I was surfing the net trying to find something and by accident saw this three year old thread about a lost ring near where I live and someone already tried finding it but had no luck. I contacted the owner and I gave it a new try with my trusty AT :) now the ring is back in the owners finger. The expression on his face was well worth it when I pulled the ring out of the mud in neck deep water :D

Hey, J.M.K. I really appreciate you sharing your finds. I just started this sport and bought my first detector last week, an AT Pro... grin. I have a lot to learn, but your finds only prove the nay sayers wrong and show that the AT Pro is a finding machine.

I can't wait to learn the machine as well as you seem to have mastered it. I took it out today for the first time, about an hour, and found only junk... but I know it can find stuff, irregardless of my lack of knowledge and inabilities. I just need to read, and reread the user manual... and practice.

If you know of any good places to learn more about how to use the AT, please pass them along. I am sure other AT users would be appreciative as I would.

Oh, and about your pictures, they look amazing... I think the guy who complained was either jealous or needs a new monitor. :laughing7:

Your finds are very encouraging. It really helped me to get fired up to learn more about my new machine. Love your attitude. Wish more here were that way.

Hey Dennis,

Glad to hear I could courage you to keep learning the art of detecting :) just to be fair I have to tell you that there's a big pile of junk missing from the pictures that I had to dig to find that treasure. AT Pro is as good detector as any in discriminating the targets but still you can't rule out too much or you will miss the rare treasures which give junk or common coin IDs. The old saying still proves solid: The one who digs the most also finds the most ;)

Best way to learn using your machine is to make sure it's in pro mode and with zero disc. Then take it to some place easy to dig (beach for example) and take some good targets with you (coins, different types and sizes of gold if you have it, silver etc.) practice with the targets a while and learn the sounds and IDs they make and you'll get a general idea what to expect. After some basic target practice the best way to learn the machine is just to use it a lot and learn the way it shows multiple targets near each other and how good targets sound near iron interference etc. but it all comes to you in time when you use it in different places. The best advice (imo) is that you don't leave pro mode and do not use any discrimination. Train your ears to accept the "trash chatter" and pick up the good signals in the mix...it could take a while and if it's all too much to begin with and you start losing interest, try some small iron disc (maybe 30ish) but try to get along with zero disc as soon as you are up for it.

Remember that if it's gold you are after there are a lot of variables that affect the sound and ID of it. White, yellow and red gold all give different sound and ID and also the size, shape and weight change both...so that's why gold is basically the hardest thing to pick out with any certainty. Basic rule still being: white gold gives lowest IDs and often rattly uneven sound, yellow gold is in the middle most often ranging from ID 50 to 70 depending how big it is and last red gold sounds like copper with id of over 70 to just below 80. These are for rings, chains are a different story...usually very low ID and sound like iron unless it belonged to 50cent or the like and is wrist thick :D

So there...some pointers which hopefully will be of some help but in the end the more you use the machine the better you will start "seeing" into the ground with it. Good luck!

Great finds, great photos and great story's. Keep them coming..

Thank you

J.M.K. Thank you for the advice. I was thinking of going to the Pro mode and your advice sounds reasonable. I am going to test different coins, metals and rings to get aquainted with how they sound and their ID numbers.

I really appreciate your feedback. After awhile I will be posting some good finds, but know I will have quite a junk treasury. LOL...

Oh, I meant to ask, are you using the 5x8 coil or the 8.5x11 coil on the detector..

Happy hunting.
Dennis

Very nice finds. I will have to hide this thread from my wife. She is Dutch and I took a detector on my last trip to Holland with her. I did pretty good on Euro coins, but no jewelry. She will wonder what is wrong with me. hahaha.

I use the stock DD coil mostly. I also have the super sniper coil but rarely use it..it's just so small :P

Two trips to different beaches:

First one - over 105 grams of 925 silver

Second one - four gold (actually 5 as one of them is a double ring welded together) all 14k and 15 silver, most of them 925
