Beach Hunting Question...

Hello all!

I've been primarly a land hunter... coin shooter/relic person... I have a Minelabs X-Terra 70 and will be hitting a main beach early tomorrow am... I'll be using a 10.5" DD coil...

I have limited beach expierence... any suggestions heads up kind of recommendations... ?? The beach is in southern Connecticut and in the 1/2 mile long... had a high high concentration of people over the weekend...

No words of wisdom but if you would please post how it went for you because I to plan on going to the beach with my -70 this fall and have never hunted a beach either. Good Luck

Try to get the tide schedule for that area and hit it at low tide if possible giving you a chance to hunt in the water without getting wet. If you hit it at low tide, you can get into the wet sand that is normally under water. Other than that, check to see if you can determine the lay out line if there is one there. That is the line where all the sunbathers put down there towels to lay out. If you can hit that line, you will have a better chance of finding something in the dry sand.

Other than that, it is just like coin shooting anywhere. Use good technique and go for it. Take your time.

I was planning to be there @ 7:30 AM...

If I might suggest, it is usually best to get to the beach couple a few hours before low tide and detect the tide going out, if you get there right before low time it starts coming in and you will lose much of the beach you otherwise would be able to detect, especially since the X-Terra is not waterproof.

Check Magic Seaweed website, it will give you the tides, height, direction, and period in between swells, winds and is very good for beach hunters. Compare the tides, the swells and when you can find them working together in your favor.

I am primarily a water hunter, if I can't have high surf tearing up the beaches for old targets, then I prefer a negative low tide, low swells and off shore winds so I can get in the water and hunt recent droops.
