My wife and I went to Columbus, Ohio on Weds so we could be together on my birthday since she had to be there anyway for meetings early Thursday morning. I had a dentist appt Thursday at 3:00 pm so we headed back early after her meetings were done to make sure I could make the appt. We got back around 1:30 and I dropped her off at work and instead of driving all the way home and then back to the dentist I decided to hit the excavation site and see if I would have any luck, and boy did I. I was only there about 45 minutes total and I found 6 Bone Beads, 1 Marginella Shell Bead, 2 tips off of Bone Awls, and 2 nice Pottery Rim Shards. I didn't find any points, not even any broken pieces, but the 7 Beads just tickled me to death. It was really dry too so I was surprised that this much was exposed.

The first three pictures are the days finds.

The 4th pic is the biggest Bone Bead. You can see the cut marks on the end and the nice polish.

The 5th pic is the smallest Bone Bead and it shows the cut mark as well.

The last pic is of the Marginella and shows the hole that is rubbed into the side for suspension.

Very nice! I wish we found bones and other perishables with that kind of frequency around here. I personally would much rather find bone, shell, beads, etc. rather than flint. Thanks for sharing.

Killer finds I would have been happy also. In S.C he have alot of acidic/alkaline soils that cause bone to parish, so I don't think I will ever find any bone artifacts. Again nice finds DFISH

Thanks guys. We're getting some rain here as I type this and my favorite Ft Ancient site is finally plowed(where PaleoJoe found his huge Bead)so I'll be hitting it in the morning when I get off work. Hopefully I'll have something to post on Sunday evening when I get back to work.

SoIl, no points in the picture. The piece on the far right is the tip off of a Bone Awl.
