According to the site area records it is, the location is in SC. I've pulled some civil war stuff out of the area as well, the sandy soil seems to keep the relics in good shape, I found a silver thimble not far from same spot. The rust build up on bottom is pretty consistent to super old stuff I've dug up around there.

Very cool and different kind of find:thumbsup:

I'm starting to think it's some kind of marble, not sure, feels a little on the heavier side, sounds like glass when I tap it.

Definitely door knob I think, wood is very pretty.
Is the handle glass, wood or??? NICE FIND! hh all

You got that post in as I was typing.... Looks like glass to me.

Feels like glass but looks like wood, lol I don't know anymore...

It is a door knob, it is glass, and it is late 1800s-early 1900s. I have seen many on local houses around here, usually on interior doors rather than exterior doors. Cool find. Most 1700s houses had lift or depress latches for the doors rather than round knobs and the steel mechanisms they turned. There are a lot of still in use colonial houses in my area.

That's darn cool! Awesome find :icon_thumright:

Great info! Thanks for your input.

It would be perfect to hang coats or purse on. Nice find.

I would say it is a top for a Cane..
Your find also appears tapered like most..

But they do look like door knobs..

That's a very plausible alternative! Thanks!

Hello Ivy,

I can't say, for sure, what you've found, (the focus on your single photo is not too focusy to my eyes) but it looks to me to be an antique brown swirly glazed porcelain door knob. I've found a lot of them. I've found them in the swirly brown, plain brown, black & white. When I've found them broken, they generally have a reddish / brown fired clay interior, except for the white ones, which are white through & through. I believe these are Victorian era...

Glass would allow light to pass through, if you're still thinking it glass…
