I had a great start to the new year & saved some awesome history! I got out Saturday with my buddies Chris & Chuck to a spot near Columbia. From what we found we suspect we are on an 1820s-30s militia camp or muster ground. There was no real concentration of iron, only small patches. There was also no big iron or house related relics, no pottery or glass either. I found a beautiful 1819 large cent! I also found 3 1820s-30s one piece eagle buttons (Chuck found one as well). There were 3 different backs so they’re not off of the same coat. Unfortunately 2 are toast but the backmarks match up. I also found an inverted Navy button (its thought a contract fell through & these were repurposed to sell to civilians). I found 15 buttons altogether including a tiny silvered button. Other finds were fired round balls, piece of a bell & piece of a colonial buckle. We also dig over 120 shotgun shells... It was great to get out with good friends & save some history!
