I usually wouldn't post up this hunt but the LC is pretty nice. I got out briefly yesterday to a spot that I wanted to check out. Nice early cabin with a good long occupation. Prob the cabin was there in the mid 1700s and a bigger home was built there and occupied until the later 1800s. The pewter shoe buckle piece and the dog nosed pewter spoon handle as well are good signs. I used the cold hp on this LC and it worked great. This is the nicest soil I've prob ever dug in. I'm hoping there's a nice state copper or a Lib cap or similar there. I'll find out in the spring

The condition of your coins disgust me!!

You just live in the wrong place buddy lol. Some of these river sites have beautiful soil. I've been lucky to get on two of them this year that produced well

Wow that came out nice!! Never tried HP cold. Can't wait to see what else comes from that site. Congrats!

I learned this technique by accident. I found a few Indian heads that were encased in the thick "coast crust" that we often see here. Left them in for days as I forgot about them. They came our incredible. If it's a very gentle easy to do it. You just need some patience

maybe that's why bears go to Maine to :censored: in the woods______________ they don't need Charmin there. NICE LARGE !!

Yup they just drag their big butts through the nice sandy soil when they're done lol

Ah yes! It's really encouraging to see a LC come out that nice! Last time I got one that nice was almost half a century ago! I was beginning to think we might be up against a time limit to still get nice coppers from the soil.

Nice job!

It's a rarity WHADI but I ha e had 2 sites this year with perfect soil. The other thing you need is a coin to be dropped early on in its life. The other site was only there for about 20 years and gone by 1776 at the latest. The coins were mostly 1749 and shipped from England in payment for help during a war. So those coins circulated for only a few years before dropped.

Love the dark patina on that copper Abe, I've dug more Rev War buttons than coppers down here so I'd definitely post up if I found one under the coil :laughing7:

I wish I could say I've dug more Rev buttons than coppers lol

That LC is amazing- incredible shape- Congrats Abe!!

Congrats on one great looking Large Cent.

Just incredible the shape that thing is in...one of best dug copper coins I've seen to date...

You're absolutely right, , that is a really pretty L.C.
Lots of definition.
Congratulations

Nice condition
congratulation

Man that copper is about as good as you'll ever see coming out of the ground. Stunning patina!! And with that early 1700s dognose spoon handle you should expect more colonial goodies in your near future, if you can find a non-frozen spot to hunt. Hopefully that shoreline at low tide will reveal more of what you're looking for. I'll be rootin' for ya as always .....

Look at the condition! I can't even get a "wheatie" out in that condition! :tongue3: Sites looks super promising!! Keep the finds coming!

Wow, now that's a nice coin. My hat is off to you
