Beautiful Button From Colonial Site

Good afternoon everyone, I went back to the colonial site where I found the William and Mary copper last weekend. I switched the Deus to 25 kHz and worked an iron infested section of the site. I found these items within the first 5 minutes of the hunt.







I am particularly interested in learning more about the ornate button. This site played a significant role in the early part of the Revolutionary War and the button appears to be too ornate to have belonged to an everyday person. I’m wondering if it would have belonged to someone of importance?

The button with two holes is French and Indian war period. I love that style. Of course, they were used later. The other button is not earlier than 1835 when that type of manufacturing came into being. Nice job.

The ornate button looks like a 2 piece to me so it could be mid 1800's to a bit earlier or later 19th century as Crusader said. The blow hole button is really cool I still haven't found one yet.

Not sure what period F&I War is, but the blow-hole button is 18th C, & the ornate one is late 19th C as stated.

Cru, French and Indian War period (aka 7 years War) is 1754 to 1763 in North America. Blow hole buttons frequently turn up on F & I War campsites.

Blow hole buttons (holes were used to enable the gases from welding the pieces together to escape), anyway , I found some on the 1777 Brandywine battlefield also.

Thank’s everyone! The site that I have been hunting was in use by the mid 1600’s by fur traders. The site then played a significant role in the early days of the Revolutionary War, and was in use until the late 1800’s as farmland. The site is now on public land. I am going back this coming weekend, I’ll be thinking about it all week!

Is that what they call a button like this, a two piece button? I would love to learn more about the ornate one, I don’t believe that the average person would own clothing with buttons that fancy.

It's to do with its construction method. ie. The front & the back plate were put together after manufacture. You could argue its a 3 piece as the shank was separate as well, but thats just picking bones.
