I found a beautiful Roman brooch while metal detecting last weekend.
It was included in my other post featuring a silver coin and several bullet casings found nearby:
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...-war-silver-german-forest-mystery-brooch.html
After feedback from other members and a great ID by Crusader approximately dating the brooch to the 2. century A.D., I decided this find was worth a seperate post.
It is a bronze frame brooch with beautiful red and orange enamel with sets of 8 lapis lazuli stones, tiny white quartz discs and turquise stones in the lobules on the outside of which one of 4 was broken off already when I found the piece.
This is a great piece of roman jewelry that has survived over 1700 years and still amazes with its beauty after all this time.

I tried to take pictures in different light and angles.
Below are some similar pieces of roman plate brooches from the internet. The similarity in shape and colors is quite remarkable.
