Been seeing Explorer XSs Are they as deep and good a xterra 70

Minelab saw the light

There are gold specific detector/coil combos out there that are going to be good at the task, but to say that an X-terra is better than an Explorer XS because it might be better at finding a gold flake is incorrect in my opinion. If that holds true, then an X-terra should be as good or better than an Explorer II, which is 98% an XS. Why does an X-terra cost that much less? Why isn't everyone saving themselves big money and buying them as opposed to spending 300-400 more on an Explorer? Overall, the Explorer line is superior to the X-terra line.

To answer your question, Minelab finally realized they needed something to compete with other brands mid priced lightweight machines. Not everyone is willing to pay $1100.00 + for a detector!

The Xterras are far outselling the Explorers. Last spring ML's Xterra inventory was so low they were basically going from day to day trying to keep them in stock. The biggest delay in getting the new small coils out was that they could barely keep up with the production requirements of the existing coils!

Tell me, is there $450.00 worth of performance difference between ML's Flagship Explorer and Sovereign?

I don't think the $1100.00 for the Explorer is worth it that is to me i like the X-terra 70.....I would sooner use the X terra 70 over the Explorer.............................Now i would put out $1100.00 for the..........Garrett Infinum......and will i would take the Infinum over the..Explorer..over the..DFX..over the..2500.................I want to go deep and the only way to go deeper is the....INFINUM.... ...........................==Jim==

I have to go with the X-Terra 70. With the wide range of very reasonably available coils it is one very versatile and sensitive machine. Another plus is that at 2.9 pounds, you can swing it all day. It takes 4 AA batteries and I'll tell you, they last for ever. The prospecting mode is very sensitive and picks up the gold nuggets better than any other VLF machine I have seen. I found one nugget the one and only time I took it out to the gold fields. I also did air tests with some flake gold in a vile between the X-Terra 70 and my Minelab SD2100 V-2. The 70 picked up the small amount of gold at a greater distance than the PI machine. The target ID is very accurate and just by listening to the tone it's easy to pick out the good finds from the junk. Minelab did their homework on this one. Don't let the lower price fool you either. The 70 ROCKS.

Good hunting, John K
