Minelab saw the light
To answer your question, Minelab finally realized they needed something to compete with other brands mid priced lightweight machines. Not everyone is willing to pay $1100.00 + for a detector!
"Why isn't everyone saving themselves big money and buying them as opposed to spending 300-400 more on an Explorer"
The Xterras are far outselling the Explorers. Last spring ML's Xterra inventory was so low they were basically going from day to day trying to keep them in stock. The biggest delay in getting the new small coils out was that they could barely keep up with the production requirements of the existing coils!
Tell me, is there $450.00 worth of performance difference between ML's Flagship Explorer and Sovereign?

Ricardo_NY1 said:There are gold specific detector/coil combos out there that are going to be good at the task, but to say that an X-terra is better than an Explorer XS because it might be better at finding a gold flake is incorrect in my opinion. If that holds true, then an X-terra should be as good or better than an Explorer II, which is 98% an XS. Why does an X-terra cost that much less? Why isn't everyone saving themselves big money and buying them as opposed to spending 300-400 more on an Explorer? Overall, the Explorer line is superior to the X-terra line.
