We have had next to no rain this summer, only a few millimetres in the last two months. However the last two days have been cool with constant drizzle...finally!
A few weeks ago I was detecting at a friend's farm and was having a tough time digging the hard dirt. This area between the trees was used by wagons, trucks, and tractors for the last 100+ years, the ground was completely undiggable. I located two targets that sounded really good, and deep! I was able to dig only a few inches, basically just scraping the rock hard dirt. I thought if it was a good target I would just scratch the hell out of it. So I marked the spots and planned to wait until we got rain.
I returned tonight knowing the ground would be much softer, and sure enough the first spot I marked produced a nice 1917 silver dime. It was every bit of 8 inches deep. Then I dug some horse tack and some junk. Another spot I marked turned up a 1901 IH cent.

These are the only two coins tonight, but it was pretty fun to have the spots marked and ready. Glad I waited.
