We have had next to no rain this summer, only a few millimetres in the last two months. However the last two days have been cool with constant drizzle...finally!

A few weeks ago I was detecting at a friend's farm and was having a tough time digging the hard dirt. This area between the trees was used by wagons, trucks, and tractors for the last 100+ years, the ground was completely undiggable. I located two targets that sounded really good, and deep! I was able to dig only a few inches, basically just scraping the rock hard dirt. I thought if it was a good target I would just scratch the hell out of it. So I marked the spots and planned to wait until we got rain. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1505701058.018384.jpg

I returned tonight knowing the ground would be much softer, and sure enough the first spot I marked produced a nice 1917 silver dime. It was every bit of 8 inches deep. Then I dug some horse tack and some junk. Another spot I marked turned up a 1901 IH cent. These are the only two coins tonight, but it was pretty fun to have the spots marked and ready. Glad I waited.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1505701491.952156.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1505701537.289686.jpg

Sweet you got your treasure even though you had to wait. Well worth the wait indeed. Nice digs.:hello:

Awesome, looks like you made the right decision not hacking the heck out of it back then when the ground was hard

Nicely rewarded!

Congrats on your finds J. I would have had sleepless nights wondering what the coins were. I really like the designs on Canadian silver.

Nice work, good finds

I am sure since you are Canadian you know that dime has more silver in it than our American dimes or your newer silver Canadian dimes. Very nice find. I enjoy finding older Canadian silver.

Congrats JC. That's a great story.

I did find an 1890 IH cent there a while back, so I knew if I found silver it could be in the Seated realm. That's really what convinced me to wait for rain.

Nice finds! Two sweet coins. HH
Thanks Coil
Nicely rewarded!
Thank you Mz

Yes it was bugging me! Before I went back I messaged the land owner and said "it rained! I just have to know what the signals were that I couldn't dig up due to the hard ground, do you mind?". Her reply was "come and dig! I want to know what it is too!". Sent her a cleaned up picture when I got home, she was happy for me haha
Nice work, good finds
Thank you treb

Yep, 92.5 dimes make for a sweeet signal.
Congrats JC. That's a great story.
