Well as most of you have heard you shouldnt go by shape alone but if you could see what I am looking in when I go to certain places if I didnt go by shape alone I would just think nothing was there. Im going to put 1 piece up for view as to what it looked like before I washed it with water and a small brush. Then tomorrow or the next day I will show the rest of the finds. Id like to hear some thoughts on this 1 piece as to what you think it might be. I think some might be shocked as to what it really is. Thanks, rock
N GA finds

Not sure what are seeing on that rock. Part of a broken Stone Hoe maybe?

Let me add another before this gets thrown into the rock forum. Both are artifacts for sure. This one is easier.

It's always hard for me to figure out if it's a tool or not, but I always bring the ones similar to the first one home for better looking at and then normally put them in my collection that surrounds one of my herb beds, they are very cool. The second one definitely is a worn and broken point and I find them quite often but rarely post them. Most of the ones I find are quartz and they really took a beating in the creek. Thanks for sharing the before and after on them.

That one looks like a broken Point of some rough material. What is the first one?

I cant think what that first one could be unless the edge shows evidence of use as a scraper or tool of some sort, just looks like rock though. the other is a broken point.

But I dont WANTTTT to wait until tomorrow to know what it is. Give us a clue!
Is it whole?

Ok , I give up!Or are you just messin with us?

Okay as promised here it is. Now in the creek when I saw it I thought that looks like the world record point base. So I picked it up and I always feel the edges after I pick them up and I felt the tiny nicks from the making of it. Looked like a rock but I kept it anyway. Got home and washed it and low and behold its either a flaked hoe or a flaked ax. But it is broken in half and unless I can go back and find the other half guess we will never know for sure. I always keep the big broken pieces I find in separate tubs by the sites I have found them.

That's a heartbreaker right there man. I see it now. I would guess probably a hoe. Would be sweet to get the other piece.

I have found another smaller piece out there in the same section might be a different 1 or could be a 3rd section some place. Its the tan piece which looks like a bit of the piece I found last week but its small compared to the other.

That first two photos are deceiving. But in the others you can see its nice and flat and what I would call a serrated edge, obviously worked. Probably just a big scraper. Maybe for large bucks or bear.

Did someone say that already? lol

I know thats why in the beginning I ignored it. I was trying to prove a point and let the new people have the chance to make some guesses. If I hadnt had a lot of experience in picking up rocks from the past I probably would of just used it as a skipping stone. You just about have to be a Geologist before you cane be a artifact hunter so you can understand what was used and what wasnt and the reasons why. You know you were thinking rock on it just like everyone else.

Cool, good eyes.
It looks like it could also have been the champion skipping stone, in a game of see who can skip the stone furthest down the creek

I wouldn't have said a possible Stone Hoe if I didn't recognize the shape and possible edge. I have quite a few Hoes myself I have found. You can even find a post on here with pictures of them

Im still looking for a whole flaked artifact like this one, maybe 1 day

That's a good eye rock. Searching mountain land is a hard way to find artifacts.

I do have 1 property with permission in the mountains but this one was a local find. I have many places I can go with permission but am always looking for new places. Cant never have enough places to look. Im a paranoid type of guy and like to look where I have permission cause I like to enjoy myself and if I had to sneak in some place to find them it just wouldnt be fun for me. Although some places I have permission it is scary to be alone out there with all of the big wild animals that I know are there. Thanks for the interest.
