Looks kinda big and very pitted so looks like iron, so maybe a grapeshot. If it's lead the only explanation for many marks is having been chewed.

Saying the size and the metal will get you closer to an ID.

Good point! I believe it is lead. Unfortunately I don't have the measurements handy, just the scale objects, but will see if I can get those soon.

Thanks

Might just be the picture making it look big. If it's a little bigger than a regular small size marble, and lead, it probably is a musket ball.

Size is approximately as you describe. Thanks for the analysis.

Does it respond to a magnet? I'm on the grapeshot boat.

It would be nice to know the actual size. Used to shot a flint lock pistol that shot a ball about the size of a shooter marble. 70 cal.
If the ball was poured with impure lead it is not unusual for some pitting.

Kyphote, any more room on the grapeshot boat? I'll buy my ticket after the magnet test. LOL :laughing7: Breezie

Well not every telephone can take good macro photos. I have seen several that are very good at making very good macro's.

It is important to read the manual or description of a camera (phone camera) on how to take close up photos. With my camera on macro two icons on the screen/viewfinder have to be green, not clear, otherwise the photo will not be in focus. Another way of doing it could be to set the resolution of the camera high, take a normal photo at a normal distance and then zoom in and cut it. Should be in focus then.

Awesome advice, I just got this phone recently, and hadn't even thought about its capabilities for macro. I did some quick searching online, and looks like it can be enhanced for close-ups using a special lens, like the ones on http://www.jelly-lens.com/index_main.php.

Excellent question. I will have a family member do this test by proxy, as I am now across the country from the item in question :) ... while at it, we'll get some some exact measurements ... I'll report back with the findings ASAP.

Thanks all!

Outstanding, Mike! Thanks for posting those. I was able to have a family member check out the item again, and it does indeed respond to a magnet.
