Due to snow here in New Jersey I'm not able to get out and play as much as I like to. I decided to clean up a few recent iron finds. This axe was found a few weeks ago. Anyone here know about belt axes? I guess that it's time to clean up some more iron finds:icon_scratch:

Nice axe find! Congrat's!!

Iowa Dale

it looks to be blacksmith made, where they fold the lap over an anvil and hammer the seam together with the main axe body.

Can you get a better close up of the makers mark?

From the hafting area I would not think its later than the 1880's or 1890's. But that's just a gut feeling. I dont have my references handy.

Nice find! I would think the British broad arrow would date it to the Rev. War, and there was certainly plenty of action from that conflict in your area of New Jersey.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

What a story it has

Yes, I agree it is hand forged, which would have been "standard" for 18th century. The broad arrow denotes British government ownership. Hope they don't want it back.:laughing7: Its a great find.

Beautiful piece of history you have there. If it could only talk and tell you what it has seen and where it has been.

Nice recovery, congrats

Very nice find. Finding an 18th century belt axe is pretty cool, and the broad arrow marking is an added bonus!

I hope the Brits. don't want all of their broad arrow stuff back. I don't want to lose my balls!

Great find, Put a handle in it. I have a British pistol with George iv and the arrow. I think it's around 1808?
