With the nasty weather upon most of the country, many of us are unable to get out to detect. I thought it would be fun to show your best find without the aid of a metal detector.

One of my favorites came this summer at a park while scoping out a potential site during my lunch hour. I found this sterling ring sticking out of the ground. It is a nice men's "No.9" (engine company?) ring, weighing 7.6 grams.

I think my best eyeball find was the $100 bill I found in the Las Vegas airport back in 1999. I was standing in line waiting to board the plane and happened to look down and saw a bill. I put my foot over it and looked around to see if anyone else saw it. Nope. Picked it up and stuffed it in my pocket. Got on the plane and pulled out to see what it was. Couldn't believe it was a $100 bill. The best part was that I owed my friend $100 for gambling actitivies that weekend. Promptly handed it over to him.

However, the best story on an eyeball find I have is that this past summer the MD club that I belonged to had a club hunt at what was thought to be an old RR camp in Northern AZ. We all drove our 2 hrs. drive to the site. Once everyone was there, the leader of the trip walked us over to the area he believed the site was. After he was done descrbing the site to us, we started walking back to our vehicles to get our detectors to start hunting. I walked no more than 5 -10 steps and saw a disk on the ground. Picked up the pace a little (before anyone else saw it) and there on the ground was a 1911 V nickel. Well after I announced this find, everyone hurried to their cars a little quicker because of the belief that if that was laying on the surface, imagine what's in the ground. Well, unfortunately, no one found any other coins that day and worse, nothing of any value/significance at all. :'(

Was goldmining below colgate on yuba river and i found an old 32cal. colt 1911 pistol. The action still worked.5 bullets in the clip. I cocked it and fired it ! It had a little rust. Superficial.
