Best lead guitar player? What say you?

No doubt Joe is a guitar virtuoso, but he doesn't play with the same soul of Clapton, or Hendrix. Also note that Hendrix was able to mix sounds, styles, proper use of feedback, etc.. I will also say that "Little Wing" by Hendrix is also one of his best works too.

For me, it's not only being able to provide a great riff, but have a feeling of soul in your music. I think that Joe is just shy on the soul part, I don't feel that from him. I would also guess that the stle of music played also has a lot to do with your choice. I love the blues/jazz formats the best.

Hendrix did not do anything 'proper'. But what he did became 'proper'. I never cared for Clapton that much. Satriana is a very good technical guitarist, and those guys became about a dime a dozen. But still good to listen to. I thought Jimmy Vaughan was pretty interesting.

I always like David Gilmore of Pink Floyd, he put so much into his playing. Also Duane Allman of the Allman Bros. could get some but like Hendrix he was takin from us too soon.

Carlos Santana, BB King, Stevie Ray, Jimmy Page and Chet Atkins :)

I agree with all the above, but I'm sure "Slash" deserves a mention :headbang:

I'm glad you mentioned him, Slash is really good, his guitar playing is outstanding, he should be at the top on any great guitar playing list. I really liked G&R and can't believe I left him off. Besides I really liked his hats ;D

I am surprised no one has said a word about Orianthi Panagaris, the great Santana can't praise her high enough...........She can make a guitar sing :icon_thumright:.....And not bad on the eyes either.

The beauty of this post is that no one is wrong. Each have a great talent in their own field of music, ranging from rock, to blues, to jazz, to country. It comes down to personal taste in the music you appreciate the most :headbang:

Spartacus, you gave the right answer...There is no "best", we all like different styles, and music, hell my favorite might be your worst liked musician...Me, David Gilmore Pink Floyd is right up there at the top...Eric Clapton also is among my picks....Everyone any of you guys, and gals named is awesome in their own right...
