I am beginning to wonder if the people there just decided to walk around with no clothes at alll due to them losing ALL THOSE DAMN BUTTONS!

Congrat's on the Hammered totals :hello2:
Sweet Jetton really nice looking. The designs of the Tudor buttons are cool.
Wondering if some of those hammered are from the same mint?
Great hunt once again, the field is producing well. :icon_thumright:

Beautiful finds there guys! :o
I really love the quality stuff that pops up for you over there.
This is a really cool piece . . . any thoughts on it Cru? :icon_scratch:

Cheers,
Dave

WOW!! What can I say except awesome

I guess I'll have to be content with the early 20th-century stuff :P

Now that is a month to remember!

Spent 15 mins just looking at those pics. :icon_thumright: Save me an acre, lol (I'll put the tickets on a credit card right now). Seriously, I always look forward to reading your posts. Do you ever get historians/archaeologists from the treasure trove unit to evaluate your finds that are 300+ yrs old? If so, what kind of documentation do they provide to you on the research they did, if any? Always wondered . .

Most were London, other than the smaller one which was Calais in France (when we owned it), don't have too many of this mint.

Thats the nice Tudor period button with drilled shank, always a joy to find them with the long shank still attached. (normally the plough beats me to them)

Another good day!

Something I've often thought about for my own finds but would be staggering for you.... can you imagine if your ground was kind to dug finds and most everything came out in fantastic condition. Even just the coppers over the years would be worth a crazy amount of money. Of course if that was the case, making money detecting would be quite easy so you'd probably see a lot more people doing it.

I've reported everything I need to under UK Law, to be honest that is very little, all the rest we keep detailed records of. When you hand it in you get a British Museum report on it, which is generally pretty detailed including metal content etc...

They don't have the money or resources to investigate any of my sites, they just log it (all Archaeology now is construction lead). It would be different if I handed in a hoard, which they would likely follow up with a dig.

This field is the kindest we get when it comes to finds, so this is the best we can do. I've had some top conditioned 17th C Tokens from here, which are hard to find in good nick.

As you say, everyone would do it which would actually kill the prices by flooding the market  I like it this way, means your grateful when it beats the odds

I missed this :o

You hit the good bit then :icon_thumleft:

Not really, went over the previous good bit & took over 4 hours for the first hammered, then a bit of a streak in an area which previously had very little. Thats why you do the whole field, as you know  Still a good area to complete but it may need to wait until after harvest next year :-\
