I blast around the settings with a water-pick to get out all the grim and then use dish soap and water along with this soft fine bristle toothbrush to scrub it clean. The kind used for a small child with baby teeth. An ultrasonic cleaner would be safer.

After losing several small diamonds and other gem stones during ultrasonic cleaning (and pouring them down the sink with the dirty water) , I came to realize that such cleaners loosen diamonds and gem stones and if your not careful (Daaa) you may end up with a much less valuable ring after using an ultrasonic cleaner.

Every jeweler I know uses steam. I bought a small steamer years ago, similar to this one on Amazon...

I was just shopping for one yesterday after watching the jeweler clean my wife's ring with it. Much better than my ultrasonic!
