I had a Beach Hunter and gave it to my brother in law, the dumb one. It worked well and I enjoyed the three tones and lights, but the one I got had a floating coil and I got tired of trying to hold it down underwater. On land now it was nice. If it wasn't for the coil, I'd have kept it. What I consider a major advantage to the Beach Hunter id II is in having 3 different tones, you can skip the low and high tones an only dig the mid tone which is where 90% of the gold rings are. This stops you from spending time on less valuable targets and gets a higher yield on time spent.

My Tiger Shark I wouldn't trade for anything. Granted it only has on freq. no lights and only one tone instead of three. But you can change coils to match the hunt. I was lucky in being able to find the 18 inch Clean Sweep Coil for the Tiger Shark. They aren't available form Tesoro any more but are available for the UMax and Sand Shark, a PI. With luck you can still find them on ebay.

The Clean Sweep (18” by 3.6”) uses widescan technology to provide tip-to-tip sensitivity. A wider detecting sweep means less time over unproductive ground and more time finding the goodies you want. The widescan design resists changes in mineralization. It makes short work of a huge amount of sand and is light weight.

Hope this helps. Both are great detectors and have a salt water mode.

what the beach hunter II is it the ones with the new coil?

I'd say no. The coil still floats on the new machines. Maybe you have to send it in for service and ask for a weighted coil. It is easier to add a sock filled with sand.
