Do any of you have a favorite kind of location where you detect, like the beach vs. a park or old property somewhere? Why do you prefer it and why? Both require their own set of expensive accessories, I've found. For the beach, one needs a special scoop, waterproof headphones (if in the water), and a waterproof pouch, all of which can easily set you back over $500. For, say, parks, one needs a push-digger-thingy and a pinpointer, which would run $200-$300.

I was born and raised on Wollaston Beach , Quincy Bay, Boston Haba. Oddly I’ve only hunted it a few times. I remember when I was little the sand was trucked in and dumped over the stones and mud. I could throw a stone from my front yard and hit the water. It stayed like that forever until a hurricane washed it all out at once. Might have been the blizzard of 78 I forget. But I went out and at first I was all cited. My Garret was ringing multiple targets every square foot. Turned out the beach is loaded with hot rocks. Very discouraging. I did find a cut in front of the Clam Box in the high sand which gave me two very old gold plated rings. One I still have. One I traded for a haircut. One thing about beaches. Nobody is going to throw you out. And the digging is easy unless you get into the rocks. I moved to another coastal town 30 years ago and would never hunt dirt. Photos Wollaston Beach before I was born.
