Big disappointment but nicest marble I have ever found

I was looking for American Indian artifacts, and found quite a few. Going along a field that has not been productive I saw this gem sitting, all washed off, on the top of the ground! At first I thought it was a drilled bead, but it is a late 19th century German marble with some swirls and air bubbles, and is in great shape. I was hoping for a bright blue bead...

I can count the number of marbles I have ever found on one hand! This is the best one.

The only marbles I have are the ones in my Head Ive yet to find one. Some of those can be worth a few bucks...Did you ever Lasso those insulaters from that spot lol

Nice find Smokey. Thats a very nice marble you eyed. As a kid we loved playing marbles and most always for keepsies too. Talk about pressure, especially if you only had a few in your pocket. Thanks for sharing.

It has no scratches on it and only 3 little dings where the air bubbles cast into it and were near the surface broke.

I don't see pontils. No pontils=more modern machine made marble. Love the color but the pre-1900 German marbles all have two pontils.

Should be "swirl" pattern pontils at the poles if handmade. The handmade marbles were made by twisting marbles from a glass rod and cutting the ends leaving pontils at the poles. If there are small indents at the poles it is likely an early machine made.
