Big Field from 1800's give Centennial coin

Hi Gang,

We found a big field to detect in and got permission to hunt then started hunting. It is from the 1800s and lots of people have been there in the past. I found a lot of clad but no old coins. I was dissappointed after three days of hunting the field.

Jeff found 25 Qs, 19 dimes, 2 nickles and a handfull of pennies yesterday.

But today I got a nice surprise--I found two nice old coins by this tree. Imagine, this coin came 100 years after we became a nation. And yes, I scratched it!!! Argh. Both coins we very shallow and I thought they were just clad. THe VDI was the same as curent quarter +84VDI. Jeff reminded me it has a mint mark ,too. "You, scratched a coin with a mint mark!" Jeff may have to walk home.

Nice dig SKD! I would smile all day if I dug a seated Quarter! I also liked the pic of the tree balancing act, almost looks like his buddys are trying to put him back upright!

AWESOME find! I have an 1876-s also, but mine is MS-60 condition and I had to dig deeper, 11 inches. Congrats! Just remember, it looks like it was worth bullion value only, so the scratch doesn't matter. What does matter is it's yours......NGE (T)
