Just had to go clean out the school yard that has been so good to me this past month. In doing so today, I got a crisp 65 VDI at 2" on the ATPro, which as owners know, could be anything! But out popped this itty, bitty, teeny, tiny little coin that I first thought was a center disc off of a piece of jewelry. But it turned out to be a 1971 1 Kurus coin from Turkey. It is only about 1/2 inch in diameter. I smiled in amazement again, wondering how this little guy ended up in an Ozark Mountains school yard. :icon_scratch:

Only other find of note was a neat little copper #7 racehorse and jockey. It may have been on a belt or other item of clothing. I can't find remnants of a loop on it indicating it was a pendant. Also found nearly $10.00 in clad for the charity fund.

Thanks for looking, if anyone can shed some light on the racehorse and jockey please do so! Sub 8-)

I've dug two of those dang Kurus coins...both in different schoolyards. I'm presuming they were once stars of "Show and Tell". 😁

Sweet!! You never know what might show up.

Man, that thing is small!!!

SUB YOU HAVE JUST BECOME A MEMBER OF THE JOCKEY CLUB , I THOUGHT THAT PIN MAY HAVE BEEN TRIPLE CROWN WINNER SECRETARIT.

The crescent and star is a symbol used by Turkey. It's a Turkish coin. Let's go cash it in brother for some awesome Turkish food! Best, Erik

Turkish food? I vote for a belly dance! Man, that thing really is small. Nice one Sub. You never know what will get lost from show and tell. I found my first English penny at a school and had no clue what it was at first.

neat find!, I found a centimes that was small like that last year, cant remember where its from, I think ireland

Very cool little coin, interesting adventure on it's travels I'm sure...

With all of the foreign coins I find in school lawns, I have deduced the following, (just as you all have,) that they were brought for show and tell, and the students parents were probably active or retired military. Most of the nations in my foreign coin collection are where the US troops have traveled in the last 30 years. The midwest is proudly full of veterans! Sub 8-)

Nice finds. That is one tiny coin.

Nice horse and rider pin. And tiny Turkish coin. Congrats!
Those are tiny like the dimes from Holland. Was hoping for a Fish Scale.

Cool coin. Does that horse have any kind of slot in the bottom? Antique horse racing games had some designs really close to that.

Some of you younger folks may not remember, but cereal boxes used to have some cool toys and stuff in them. I think it was Kellog's that had "Coins of the world".
There would be a little plastic bag with a foreign coin inside. I think it was mostly to help the sales of corn flakes:laughing7:. I still have a bunch of them, somewhere.

Centimes are French or from one of their former colonies.
