A friend of mine is a geologist and was working in Alaska. They were ferried out to the site by helicopter every day. From the chopper, he noticed this rock along the route they flew and got the pilot to land there and check it out. He said it's jasper. No way to get it in the chopper, so it's still sitting out there in the boonies. Gary

Wow that is really nice looking, probably worth quite a few $$ if he were able to get it onboard.

That's a beautiful piece of jasper, too bad it's too tough to get out, lapadairies or flintknappers would have a hay day with that rock!

That is absolutely beautiful and thank you for sharing the picture! I was just learning about jasper before I saw your post. Something I found interesting is that there is a large jasper vase in a museum in Russia called the Kolyvan Vase that weighs 19 tons! Ill post a photo of it.
