Got out Saturday morning, planned on hitting an old 1800’s homesite at a new old park. Started at sunrise and was greeted by these 2 dudes with minimal fear of humans.
The homesite at the park was unfortunately graded over so after 45 minutes of digging clad I hit a small patch of woods and found a couple toy cars.
So it wasn’t even 7:30am yet so I decided to hit an old site we have pounded nearby in a thickly wooded park site. Anything that beeps high and deep is good here, but very few signals left. Got a 33-34/iron/28-29/iron/31-32 signal on the nox. Would have passed except the hightones were pure and consistent when I swung just right. Dug a big plug and reswung, only iron/iron now, aaarrrggghhh. But decided to pinpoint and find the iron, ended up being a 6”x3”x2” rusty ax head. Reswung and got a nice 28/29.
I see a quarter sized coin that I don’t recognize.
1939 United States of America? What the?
Turns out to be a Philippines coin. I did not even realize that we owned this country...
Decided to swing the hole again and got more mixed iron and some very hightones. This time when pinpointing a big silver coin popped out.
This is almost as big as a half dollar, but thicker. Initially thought/hoped for a 4 Reales as it looked like pillars half covered in dirt, but it’s an Australian Florin. Pull out a couple rusty nails, then fill the hole, but 2 feet over a very weak but distinct and repeating shallow 28/29 which is usually a dime and a big Kangaroo Penny pops out.
Must be another WW2 soldier coin spill, strangely I’ve found 3 of these spills in the last 12 months.
Made it out Sunday for a quick after dinner hour long hunt at a nearby site. Found a cool beer token.
I have found a number of similar tokens from the Independent Brewing Company consortium, but this is from their competitor the Pittsburg Brewing Company. This would have been used 1891-1911 based on the spelling of Pittsburgh without the “h”.
