Beautiful! You even got the little hook in the beak! It's part of the flycatcher family, cousin to the Scissortail. I think they are the most noble looking of the little birds. Nice pretty picture :icon_thumleft:

Kingbirds are truly fearless. I have seen them attack cats in trees; on falcons, hawks and eagles. They mimic the sound of raptors, especially eagles. You need to witness seeing 2 kingbirds chasing a bald eagle from near their nesting site: 2 small birds about the size of blackbirds scaring a much larger bird away. How? They were making sounds similar to a Perigrine falcon, perhaps the only bird unimpressed by eagles.

Tuberale, that behavior is why this family of birds is the genus Tyrannus(sp?) like the dinosaur. Thus the 'King' part. they are fierce! Tyrant flycatchers! wouldn't be summer without them.

Awesome picture. What camera did you use?
I used a Canon XSI, with a Canon 400mm lens and a 1.4 teleconverter attached. I was about 12 feet away from the bird.

Thanks again ALL,

Ron

Nice shot. Sure glad I don't have to buy extra lenses to do the same thing (Fujifilm HS20exr) I shoot in manual mode a lot. My fixed lens zooms from 24mm - 720mm..........NGE

Thanks NGE and ALL.

Cool, 24 to 720 is quite a range. It does get expensive buying lenses, seems like I need another one at times.
