Only drawback with frequency shift is that it locks you into Tx 2 (cannot change it when frequecy shifted off nominal freq) so unless you have a need for a specific frequecy, best to just wholesale change it to one of the other 3 available. As a side note, 4khz cannot be shifted and is always locked at Tx 2, if I recall correctly.

Right, I believe that is bècause the coil is tuned for the centers of the 4 nominal operating frequencies, not the shifted frequencies. That is also why they probably also limit TX power so as to not put wasted transmit energy into the coil in offset frequecies which just creates heat.
