Black lacquer carved dragon lamp

I bought this at a yard sale for $1. The lady said it was super ugly and I took a better look at it and it was carved dragons wrapped around this lamp.
The wood part is 26 inches tall. Wondering if it’s just a tourist piece or if it’s something older that might have some value to it. The plug and hardware looks newer or has been replaced.

I can't say if it's really old, because you can find real carved wood pieces like it now in an import shop at the mall near where I live. I'm learning towards it being Indonesian and I do admire the skills it took to produce such a unique object. Some of my favorite finds, I bought from sellers who thought it was ugly.

Don't think it's old, the base isn't scratched or worn. Is the paint wearing off towards the bottom?

Not really weathered off it looks like some spots were not completely covered.
