its worth trying, have read that it can be found in the magnitite on superiors shores
 

it's not just on lake superior sands. I've seen black sand on several local lakes here in the U.P. as well. I've always wondered about panning some of the beach sands from the inland lakes as well. ;D ;D
 

I noticed the most of it at the Gay Beach (no kidding). We took a short drive on it last Summer. We are taking it for @ 5 miles down next month on a trip.

rattles hes not to far east of your pic, lots of the northern lakes have a good concentrations of magnetite
 

i suspect what your looking at on the beach are tailing,s from the old smelter -- if you don,t find any gold you can always go up the road to Lac Lebelle -- fishing is great
