Here are a few of the coins I've found in the past. The 1880 gold coin was found in WVA, the 09-S(no vdb) was found right next to a 1912-S(can't find that pic tho) in an old Park, the 1858 Flying Eagle was dug in a private yard is beside the Buffalo in the pic.

Jack, great finds you have there. What's your opinion on the loss of the gold coin in that old football field? How deep was it? You think it was a recent coin collection loss or you think it was dropped long ago? I always try to imagine when finding an old coin, how/when it was dropped.

One of these days, when the silver runs dry by me, I will concentrate my efforts on finding my first gold coin. But then again, it will probably come when I least expect it. ;D

I sure hope you don't have to wait that long to get gold coin #2, think positive!

Sure is an inspiration to see your great finds, especially that sweet gold coin. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Is it a $10 piece? Looks like it.

BDoo

Hey BDoo, its a $5 gold piece and unless I get VERY lucky, I don't expect to dig another. Not saying I won't, but these coins weren't lost like pennies!! Good to see you posting again!!

Dan, I think that coin was a drop from someone who worked that abandoned mine a long time ago, the coin was probably in the 5 inch range. I doubt that field had been hunted much because from what the groundskeeper said the gate should have been closed. I figure you've got a few years of silver to go before you start digging that gold then!!
